Volleyball Ready For Opening Round Of SUNYAC Playoffs

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team heads out to New Paltz for round one of the SUNYAC playoffs. The Bengals clinched the No. 6 seed while New Paltz is the No. 3 seed. The winner will advance to the semifinals on Friday. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.

Breaking Down The Bengals:

·         Buffalo State finished out the regular season with a tri-match against St. John Fisher and the University of Rochester.

·         Through the regular season, Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) leads the team with 179 kills and is second with 35 service aces.

·         Grad student Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) has tallied 159 kills and team-leading 80.0 blocks.

·         Freshman Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) has been hug for Buffalo State this year, tallying 151 digs and 337 assists.

·         The Bengals will look to get past New Paltz for the first time since 2013.
 

Eyeing The Hawks:

·         New Paltz enters today after sweeping their tri-match with Vassar and William Paterson University last weekend.

·         Mackenzie Williams leads the Hawks with 267 kills and 45 service aces.

·         Letisha Perez leads the way with 56.0 blocks and Cate DiGiacomo dished out 701 assists.

·         Last season, the Hawks lost in the semifinals to Cortland.
 

The History:

·         New Paltz has the 14-4 advantage all-time, including the last eight matchups overall.

·         The Hawks swept the Bengals in mid-October.

·         A win would advance the Bengals to the semifinals for the first time since 2014.
