Women's Basketball Wins Pivotal SUNYAC Matchup over Oneonta, 79-71

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's basketball team defeated Oneonta in a back-and-forth affair at the Sports Arena on Saturday afternoon, winning 79-71.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
-The Red Dragons raced out to a 15-7 lead just past the halfway point of the first quarter.
 
-The Bengals closed the frame on a 7-3 to cut the deficit to 17-14 after one.
 
-Trailing 28-26 at the midway point of the second quarter, the Bengals scored 10 straight points, and took a five-point lead into halftime.
 
-Oneonta tied the score at 38-38 coming out of halftime, and used a 10-0 run to turn a five-point Bengal lead into a five-point Red Dragon lead.
 
-A jumper by Jones cut the Buffalo State deficit to 53-50 in the closing seconds of the third quarter.
 
-The Bengals outscored the Red Dragons 29-18 in the fourth quarter and knocked down 16 of 17 free throws in the frame to pull out the 79-71 victory.
 
FOR THE FOES
 
-Molly Stephens scored 21 points to lead Oneonta, and shot 5-11 from 3-point range.
 
-Oneonta hit 21 of 22 free throw attempts in the game.
