BUFFALO, N.Y.— The Buffalo State women's basketball team recorded 14 steals, including a career-high eight by
Tashawni Cornfield (Gowanda, N.Y./Putham) as the Bengals win their third consecutive game, a 73-59 home victory over Oswego in SUNYAC action Tuesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Cornfield nearly tallied a triple-double, filling up the score sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds, eight steals, and three assists.
- Katie Villarini (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) led Buffalo State offensively with 21 points, shooting 8-for-16 from the field, adding four rebounds and four assists.
- Adiya Jones (Washington, D.C./McKinley) added 11 points and eight rebounds.
- Riley Domin (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville South) was effective off the bench, with eight points on 2-of-3 shooting from 3-point range.
- The Bengals shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the field and outscored the Lakers in the paint, 30-14.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The shot failed to fall for the Bengals early on, as Oswego jumped out to a 10-3 lead after an Elania Johnson jumper.
- Oswego led by as many as eight points (15-7) in the opening period.
- Buffalo State closed the period with five Villarini points, including a 3-pointer as the hosts trailed 15-12 after one.
- Buffalo State continued to chip away at the Oswego lead, eventually taking a 25-24 lead at the 3:38 mark after a floating jumper by Cornfield.
- Cornfield's basket started a 10-0 run, as Domin hit a pair of threes to give the Bengals a 10-point, 34-24 lead.
- Chastin Giles stopped the bleeding with a 3-pointer for Oswego with one minute remaining, but a pair of Jones free throws gave the Bengals a 36-25 lead at the half.
- The third quarter was all Buffalo State, as they held the Lakers to just nine points in the quarter, stretching its lead to as many as 19 points (52-33) after a Grace Carey (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) put back with 1:31 to go.
- Trailing 52-36 entering the fourth quarter, Oswego received a welcome boost from reserve Chastin Giles, as she fired 11 points, including nine points from beyond the arc, in the first 2:48.
- Later in the period, Logan Castiglione blocked a Zavia Jaime (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) layup, then Giles scored in the paint seconds later on the fast break, bringing the Buffalo State lead to eight, at 62-54.
- That was as close as the Lakers would get. Carey answered with a crucial 3-pointer, then Cornfield picked Diamond Pickett's pocket in the backcourt, finishing the other way with a layup to bring the lead to 13 with just under three minutes to go.

- Danielle Caivana led Oswego with 18 points.
- Giles added 17 points, 14 of those coming in the final quarter.
- The Lakers shot 32.4 percent (23-of-71) from the field and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds.

- Cornfield tallied eight steals, one shy of the single-game record of nine, shared by Liv LeBaron (vs. Geneseo, Jan. 2019), Keyonte Edwards (vs. Thiel, Nov. 2015), Julie Jackson (vs. Penn State Behrend, Jan. 2002), and Chrissy Milleville (vs. Fredonia, Feb. 2002).
- Villarini's 21 points pushed her into fourth place on the all-time scoring list, passing Dee Ross '90. She has a total of 1,390 points in 99 career games.
