Softball drops two at New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – A pair of big New Paltz innings proved to be the winning margin in both games, as the Buffalo State softball team dropped a road doubleheader to the host Hawks, in SUNYAC action Tuesday afternoon. The Bengals fell in both games, 3-1 and 8-3.
 
GAME 1 BASICS

  • After three scoreless innings by both starting pitchers, New Paltz struck first with a three-run fourth, capped by a two-RBI triple by Katie Quagliana.
  • In the fifth, Sydney Shuta (Newburgh, N.Y./Marlboro) tallied the Bengals' only run thanks to a sacrifice grounder with one out, which scored Kellogg.
  • The Bengals managed to get one more runner on base in the sixth inning, but couldn't draw closer as Lindsay Roman wrapped up the complete-game effort.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Quagliana led New Paltz with a 2-for-4 performance, driving in two runs.
  • Roman allowed one earned run in seven innings pitched, striking out six to improve to 9-3.

  • Four batters later, the Bengals took advantage of a Hawks error as Kruse scored with two outs, as Buffalo State led 2-1.
  • New Paltz responded with a five-run inning, taking a 6-2 lead.
  • The Bengals took advantage of another error in the fourth, this time at left field as Congelosi's run reduced the deficit to 6-3.
  • The Hawks added two runs in the fourth for the 8-3 advantage.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Madison Maggs and Nicole Greco each tallied two hits.
  • Sydney Bonewit and Jillian Shelbourne each drove in two runs off one hit.
  • Jillian Harrison improved to 5-2 with the win in circle, allowing two earned runs on three hits in 3 1.3 innings.
