Renee Carlineo has announced the hire of
Daniel Miranda as the inaugural head coach for the men's volleyball program, which will begin action in the 2023-24 season.

Dan has built a recruiting pipeline to Western New York and the Caribbean that we believe will help kickstart this program. Buffalo State will be a place that is attractive to men's volleyball players from New York and beyond. We can't wait for Dan to get started and watch men's volleyball take off!"
Miranda returns home to the Queen City after six seasons leading the Elmira College men's volleyball program, while also serving as the College's women's volleyball head coach in his final three seasons. The United Collegiate Volleyball Conference (UVC) Coach of the Year in 2018, Miranda earned a 68-94 overall record after finishing the 2022 campaign with a 17-13 record and a berth into the UVC Tournament.
His 2018 team saw the Soaring Eagles post a 20-12 record, earning statement wins over No. 5 Dominican (Ill.) and No. 14 SUNY New Paltz in five sets, in addition to sweeping a pair of matches from longtime rival Nazareth. The Soaring Eagles earned a berth in the UVC Tournament for the first time since 2015. Elmira also earned a national ranking during that season, soaring as high as 13
th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) rankings.
In his six seasons, Miranda had 11 Empire 8 All-Conference selections on the women's side, three United Volleyball All-Conference nods on the men's side, the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year during the 2020 season, and earned the aforementioned UVC Coach of the Year honors during the 2018 season. Additionally, Miranda had three AVCA National Players of the Week during his time with the men's program.

I will strive to build a strong base of players and instill a commitment to have continual success in all of their futures. I am honored to be able to begin this program and I look forward to hitting the ground running. The city of Buffalo is where I call home, and words cannot express my gratitude to be able to build a program in this city, alongside my family."
Prior to his time at Elmira, Miranda spent the 2015-16 season as the head coach of the Genesee Community College women's volleyball team in Batavia. During his tenure with GCC, Miranda helped the team register a 34-9-2 overall record and guided the Cougars to runner-up finishes at the 2015 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III Division III and the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Tournaments.
Five GCC student-athletes received postseason honors at the conclusion of the 2015 season under the tutelage of Miranda. Two athletes were named to the NJCAA All-Region III First Team, while three others received honors from the WNYAC, including two All-WNYAC First-Team selections as well as an All-WYNAC Second Team recipient.
Prior to his appointment with the Cougars, Miranda was the head coach of the Fairport High School boys junior varsity team from 2013-14. Miranda also served as the head coach of the Pace Bootlegger Volleyball Club, based out of Rochester, from 2012-16.
While working with Pace, Miranda coached U-12, U-15, and U-16 teams. In addition to developing players at all three levels, his most recent work has been with the U-16 group, one that qualified for nationals at the first tournament of the year at the Rochester Can-Am Tournament. Additionally, his U-16 Pace Bootleggers finished within the top-five of each tournament it competed in leading up to the national tournament this past season.
Miranda is a 2012 graduate of Nazareth College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He also stayed for another two years at Nazareth to receive a Master's of Science degree in accounting.
During his undergraduate studies, Miranda spent four years as a member of the Nazareth men's volleyball team from 2009-12 and helped the Golden Flyers amass 105 victories, as well as four winning seasons. He was a member of the 2011 team that rattled off 22 consecutive wins to end the season with a 31-3 overall record, en route to the Molten Division III National Championship title in just the program's seventh season of intercollegiate play.
Miranda played in 77 career matches for the Golden Flyers as a middle hitter and right-side hitter. He had a super-efficient career in terms of offensive production with 230 kills and a .377 attack percentage. Miranda was also a force on the defensive side of the ball with 127 career blocks on 22 solos and 105 block assists.
