Football Falls to #14 Cortland in Home Opener

BUFFALO, NY – The visiting Red Dragons raced out to a 28-0 lead, and scored touchdowns on their first seven possessions to pull away with a 66-7 victory over the Buffalo State football team on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
 
  • Tariq Nelson (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) led the Bengals' receiving attack with seven catches for 106 yards.
  • Julian Maloney (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) caught three passes for 53 yards a touchdown for his second score in as many weeks.
  • Tom Delgado (Bayside, NY/Bayside) completed 12 of 22 passes for 154 yards for the Bengals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • The Red Dragons scored on each of their offensive possessions in the first quarter, adding an interception return for a touchdown by Joshua Cordero to build a 28-0 lead after one quarter of play.
  • The Bengals reached the Cortland 32-yard line on their fifth drive of the game, but gave the ball back on downs.
  • Cortland tacked on three more rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 49-0 lead into halftime.
  • The Bengals made it to the Cortland 13-yard line on their opening possession of the second half, but turned the ball over on downs, leading to a 55-yard touchdown reception for Cortland's Rashad Tucker.
  • The Red Dragons added a field goal and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it 66-0.
  • The Bengals were able to get on the scoreboard in the waning moments of the game with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Javon Ford (Lockport, NY/Lockport) to Maloney to complete an 11-play, 72-yard drive to make it a 66-7 final score.
 
FOR THE FOES
 
  • Zac Boyes completed 14 of 16 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown.
  • Jaden Alfanostjohn added 76 yards and three scores on the ground.
