Women's Lacrosse Rallies Late In Comeback Win Over Fredonia

BUFFALO, NY – Capped off by Vanessa Willick's (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) five goal performance, the Buffalo State women's lacrosse team rallied back to defeat the Fredonia Blue Devils on Senior Day by a final score of 15-13 at Coyer Field.
 
The team also recognized senior Lindsay Wademan (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) prior to the game.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Emilee Josker (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) paced the Bengals with seven goals in the win.
  • Willick added an assist, six draw controls, and a caused turnover to her five goal effort.
  • Sage Running Rabbit (Siksika, AB/Strathmore) tallied four assists in the effort.
  • Buffalo State outshot Fredonia by a 36-29 margin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue Devil got off to a fast start as they quickly found themselves up 3-0.
  • Willick would get the Bengals on the board, but Fredonia would score two more goals in the first to take a 5-1 lead.
  • After Willick and Josker scored back-to-back goals, the Blue Devils would build on their lead.
  • Buffalo State rallied back with three of the final goals in the half to only trail 8-6.
  • Fredonia opened the third with three unanswered goals.
  • The Bengals would respond with a 5-0 run, capped-off by another Josker girl to even the score 11-11 after the third.
  • To kick-off the final 15 minutes of action, Fredonia scored from the free position.
  • Willick would then go on to score the tying goal and go-ahead goal halfway through.
  • Sarah Fineour (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) and Lauren Rinow (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) each scored to help secure the Bengals comeback efforts.
FOR THE FOES
  • Julie Culver led Fredonia with six goals and two assists.
  • Sydney Buchko had seven draw controls.
  • Emily Carr made 16 saves in the effort.
UP NEXT
The Bengals are back in action o Saturday as they travel to Cortland for a 3:30 pm battle with the Red Dragons.
