OSWEGO, NY – The Buffalo State softball team scored 24 runs over two games to sweep a doubleheader over Oswego on Friday afternoon. The victories also clinched a SUNYAC playoff berth for Buffalo State.
INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORES
- Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) led Buffalo State with four hits, including a home run, and also drove in four runs.
- Sydney Bielicki (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Mya Hurley (Amherst, NY/Amherst), Jenna Wlostowski (Lancaster, NY/Alden) and Deme Kellogg each had three hits.
- Oriana Castello (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet) reached base four times on two hits and two walks.
- Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) scattered 10 hits, while allowing just two unearned runs in game one for the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring a pair of unearned runs after a Buffalo State error in the outfield.
- The Bengals responded with three runs in the third inning, all with two outs. Castello walked and stole second, and Bielicki, Wolinski, Parsons followed with RBI hits.
- Castello led off the fifth inning with a triple, and scored one batter later on a sacrifice fly by Bielicki. Hurley sent an RBI single through the left side a few batters later to make it 5-2.
- The Bengals scored five runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Parsons hammered a three-run homer to right field, and Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) scored on a fly ball, and Sam Schafer (Depew, NY/Lancaster) finished off the scoring with an RBI double to left center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first inning, the Bengals scored four runs in the second to take the lead for good.
- With the bases loaded, Kellogg sent a two-run single to left center. Hurley scored on a wild pitch one batter later, and Wlostowski added an RBI single later in the inning.
- Buffalo State scored three more runs in the third on a bases-clearing double by Sydney Shuta (Newburgh, NY/Marlboro).
- After Oswego scored a run each in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, Buffalo State erupted for seven runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
- The Bengals had six consecutive hits in the inning, including run-scoring hits by Wlostowski, Castello, Bielicki, and Wolinski.
- Meghan Baio (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) added the final Buffalo State run in the inning on a sacrifice fly.
- The Lakers scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wasn't nearly enough to stop Buffalo State.
- Kaitlyn Schnitzer (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) pitcher two shutout innings for the Bengals, while Grace Albano (N. Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) pitched the final three innings.
FOR THE FOES
- Madison Hoeflich led Oswego with three hits in game one, and two more in game two.
