INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Kaitlyn Schnitzer (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) pitched a complete game, allowing just one run and five hits for Buffalo State.
- Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) went 2-for-3 for the Bengals.
- Sydney Bielicki (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), Oriana Castello (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet), Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), Sydney Shuta (Newburgh, NY/Marlboro), and Jenna Wlostowski (Lancaster, NY/Alden) each recorded a hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Buffalo State was unable to score in the top half of the first, Bielicki turned a 4-4-3 double play to help the Bengals get through the first inning scoreless.
- Kellogg's double and Shuta's single in the second gave the Bengals runners on the corners with two outs, but Elizabeth Eberhardt was able to escape danger for Geneseo with a strikeout.
- Castello singled to lead off the third, went to second on Bielicki's sacrifice bunt, and then stole third with one out. However, she was left stranded there as the game remained scoreless.
- Geneseo struck for the game's lone run in the bottom of the third, with Rebecca Schwartz sending an RBI single to center field.
- The Bengals loaded the bases in the fourth, but Eberhardt once again pitched out of trouble, this time by inducing an inning-ending groundout.
- Buffalo State threatened in the fifth with runners on second and third with one out, but the Knights were able to cut down the tying run at home plate on a fielder's choice, then induced a fly ball to left field for the final out of the inning.
- Schnitzer allowed just one baserunner over the final three innings to keep the Bengals within range.
- Eberhardt set the Bengals down in order in the final two innings to complete Geneseo's third consecutive SUNYAC title.
FOR THE FOES
- Leah VanDerwarker doubled and scored Geneseo's run.
- Eberhardt scattered seven hits to shut out Buffalo State for the second time in the tournament.
