BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team returns home for the first time this season as they will host their annual Buffalo State Bengals Women's Volleyball Challenge. Matches will begin tonight at 5:00 pm as the Bengals will battle Penn State Behrend. The tournament will continue into tomorrow and the five teams will play each other for the tournament crown.

Breaking Down The Bengals

• The Bengals return to action with a 3-5 (0-0 SUNYAC) start to the season.
• Last time out, Buffalo State finished 2-1 in the University of Rochester Tournament where they faced the Yellowjackets, RIT, and Keuka College.
• Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville Griffith) is coming off winning SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week after tallying 46 kills over four matches with 47 digs.
• Wittman currently leads Buffalo State with 81 kills on the year while Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) paces the team with 169 assists.
• McCartney Geartz (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) has the top mark for the Bengals in blocks with 21.0.

 
Assessing The Competition

• Joining the Bengals this year is Penn State Behrend, Alfred University, Covenant, and Houghton.
• Penn State Behrend enters play with a record of 6-2 (0-0 AMCC) to begin the year.
• Alfred University makes the trip with a 3-4 (0-0 Empire 8) mark on the season.
• Covenant comes to Buffalo all the way from Georgia with a record of 7-1 (0-0 CCS) to face-off with the Bengals for the first time.
• Houghton travels with a 2-3 (0-0 Empire 8) start to the year.
