BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's volleyball team earned their first program win this evening in a five-set thriller against the Penn State Behrend Lions at the Sports Arena.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Jake Woelfel (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) led the Bengals with 21 kills while also setting a new program record.
- Woelfel also led the team with 10 digs while Hayden McCue (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had four service aces.
- Chi Jackson (Buffalo, NY/Cheektowaga) added 16 kills of his own.
- Jackson Stang (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) also set a program record with 50 assists in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides went back-and-forth to begin the action this evening with and 8-8 start.
- After Buffalo State took a 12-9 lead, the Bengals pounced to score five of the next six points to build their cushion.
- The Lions kept it close in the first set, but the Bengals were able to hang on following a kill from Jackson.
- In the second set, the Bengals pounced and scored eight of the first 10 points.
- The Lions attempted to close the gap; however, the Bengals went on a 6-1 run to close out the second set.
- Penn State Behrend found some rhythm in the third set and scored six of the last eight points to keep the action going.
- In the fourth set, the Lions were able to take an early 9-7 lead.
- After the Bengals regained the lead with a five point swing, the Lions chipped away and were able to force a decisive fifth set.
- The Bengals opened the final set with a 7-1 start.
- Buffalo State would score the final five points of the set and secure the win after an attack error from the Lions.
FOR THE FOES
- Kyle Hoffman led the Lions with eight kills and eight digs.
- Caden Mealy had 14 assists in the effort.

The Bengals return to action this weekend as they host their first annual Bengal Invite with UC Santa Cruz, Hobart, Potsdam, St. John Fisher, and Wells College.
