Late Offensive Surge Lifts Men's Soccer Past Morrisville

BUFFALO, NY – After three late goals, the Buffalo State men's soccer team picked up a shutout victory over the Morrisville Mustangs tonight on Coyer Field. At 9-0-1 overall, the men's soccer team has nearly matched their best start to a season since 2004 when the team opened the season with a record of 9-0-2.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham), Adam Webster (York, England/Woldgate College), and Aney Djadou (Buffalo, NY/Amherst) each scored for the Bengals.
  • Manu Prieto (Cascais, Portugal/Salesianos do Estoril) picked up a pair of assists.
  • Shae Wirt (Overland Park, KS/St. Thomas Aquinas) needed to make just three saves for his fifth shutout of the season.
 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a stalemate first half, the two sides could not find the scoreboard as it was 0-0 heading into halftime.
  • Morrisville got an opportunity early in the second half, however, Tapiwa Mushonga (Johannesburg, South Africa/Hilton College) was able to poke the loose ball out just enough to avoid the Mustangs goal.
  • After a red card on Morrisville, the Bengals began to put on the offensive pressure.
  • Rivera got the scoring started as he launched the ball from a free kick position that sailed into the back of the net.
  • Shortly after, Webster added another goal after a smooth pass from Prieto.
  • Just three minutes later, Prieto found Djadou who fired his shot right into an open goal to help seal the Bengals win.
  • Buffalo State outshot the Mustangs 25-6 overall.
 FOR THE FOES
  • Russell Lucero led Morrisville with a pair of shots.
  • Ronaldo Fatolou made six saves for the Mustangs in the effort.
