BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's hockey team opened the season with an impressive 5-1 victory over the Misericordia Cougars tonight to begin the Bengal Classic at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Messing got the Bengals going early with his first goal of the season less than four minutes into the action.
- The Bengals would add another goal late in the period as Manov scored his first career goal.
- Misericordia responded early in the second with a goal of their own to cut the lead to 2-1.
- Powell would also score his first collegiate goal to give the Bengals some breathing room heading into the final 20 minutes of action.
- Bizal and Marquez joined in on the scoring giving the Bengals a 5-1 lead.
- Cumberworth made a handful of crucial saves down the stretch to preserve the Bengals win.
- The Bengals outshot the Cougars 36-22 overall.
- Five different Bengals registered the first point of their collegiate careers.
FOR THE FOES
- Nicholas Solema scored the lone goal for the Cougars.
- Jacob Perrin made 31 saves in the effort.
