Women’s Basketball Loses on the Road

HOUGHTON, NY – The Buffalo State women's basketball dropped their road matchup against the Houghton University Highlanders, 76-35, moving to 1-3 in the early season.

  • Chloe Hanson (Skaneateles, NY/ Moravia) led the Bengals in scoring with 12 points on the night. Adiya Jones (Washington, D.C./ McKinley Technology) backed her up with ten-points.
  • Maddy Stearns (Clarence, NY/ Clarence) led the Bengals with six rebounds, with Jones and Ashley Tucker (Buffalo, NY/ Kenmore West) each grabbing five boards.
  • The Bengals shot 21.8% from the floor and shot 70.4% from the free-throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Entering a tough battle against a talented Highlanders team, the Bengals looked to a start off strong and get some momentum throughout the game. However, things didn't pan out in the Bengals favor, as the Highlanders got up early to a double-digit lead in the quarter and would close out the first quarter with a 19-9 lead.
  • The second quarter saw the Bengals attempt to chip away at the lead, which they did as they were able to get within eight-points of the Highlanders. As hard as the Bengals fought, the Highlanders fought harder, extending their lead back up to double digits, putting the Bengals in a hole at halftime, 37-21.
  • The second half saw the Highlanders continue to attack the Bengals defense, extending their lead to 23-points in the third quarter, before closing out the game up 41-points, downing the Bengals 76-35.

  • Tabitha DeVries led the Highlanders in scoring with 21 points.
  • Crysta Lacrosse led the Highlanders with ten rebounds.
