Men's Hockey Loses to Potsdam in Season Finale

POTSDAM, NY – The Buffalo State men's hockey team fell behind in a win-and-in situation on Saturday evening, and the Bengals saw their comeback bid come up just short in a 4-3 loss to Potsdam. With the result, Potsdam clinched the final spot in the SUNYAC Tournament, eliminating Buffalo State in the process.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Potsdam struck first with a goal on the power play just over six minutes into the contest, and led 1-0 after one period.
  • Jakub Hall scored his second goal of the game for Potsdam to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage five minutes into the second period.
  • Potsdam added a third goal at 12:01 of the frame to increase the advantage.
  • Buffalo State pull a goal back just over a minute later, as Messing snapped a wrist shot from the right circle after a feed from Jason Kwestel (Rockaway, NJ/Valley Wildcats) from below the goal line.
  • With Buffalo State seeming to pick up the pressure, the Bears halted that momentum with a goal in the final 30 seconds of the period to lead 4-1 after two periods.
  • Late in the third period, the Bengals pulled Cumberworth for an extra attacker, and scored a pair of goals to reduce the deficit to one.
  • Glamos found the back of the net at the back post off a cross-ice feed from McCosh to make it 4-2 with 3:57 remaining.
  • Meure then saw his shot find the back of the net through a scrum in front to give the Bengals life with 2:29 left.
  • Buffalo State upped the pressure even more, but wasn't able to find an equalizer that would given them the overtime point necessary to secure a playoff berth.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Hall led Potsdam with two goals.
  • Lenny Perno stopped 33 shots in goal for the victory.
