ERIE, PA – The Buffalo State men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to host Penn State Behrend and Trine University at a tri-match on Saturday afternoon.
MATCH ONE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Penn State Behrend – 3, Buffalo State – 0
SET SCORES: 27-25, 25-22, 25-18
LOCATION: Junker Center – Erie, PA
INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Christopher Laboy (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Lafayette) and Gavin Wilczewski (Elma, NY/East Aurora) each had eight kills to lead Buffalo State.
- Jackson Stang (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) handed out 29 assists.
- Jake Woelfel (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West) had had seven digs, while Stang and Wilczewski each contributed six digs as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State had a 16-12 lead in the first set, but Penn State Behrend responded to tie the score at 20-20. The Bengals then had to fight off two set points, before the Lions closed out the set at 27-25.
- The Lions raced out to an 8-2 lead in the second set, extending the advantage to as many as seven at 14-7. Buffalo State pulled back to within one thanks to kills by Laboy and Wilczewski, but was unable to tie the score as the Bengals fell 25-22.
- The Bengals once again fell behind in the third set, and were never able to come within five in the second half of the set to fall.

- Kyle Hoffman had 10 kills for the Lions.
MATCH TWO BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Trine – 3, Buffalo State – 0
SET SCORES: 25-23, 25-19, 25-20
LOCATION: Junker Center – Erie, PA
INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Wilczewski had 10 kills to lead Buffalo State.
- Woelfel had four blocks, while Hayden McCue (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had three.
- Alex Nuez (Paterson, NJ/Eastside) had nine digs.
- Stang dished out 26 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State led 9-5 in the first set, but Trine fought back to tie the score and take the lead.
- After Buffalo State retook the lead thanks to a ace by Kaden Strong (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca East), Trine won four of the final five points to win the set.
- Trine used an 8-0 run to turn a one-point deficit into a seven-point edge on the way to winning the second set 25-19.
- The Thunder led by as many as six points in the third set, winning 25-20 to close out the match.
FOR THE FOES
- Ted Hofmesiter had nine kills for the Thunder.
