Men's Volleyball Falls to No. 16 Hobart

GENEVA, NY – Reigning AVCA Player of the Year Andrew Kim had 15 kills to lead nationally-16th ranked Hobart to a victory over the Buffalo State men's volleyball team on Friday evening.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Kaden Strong (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca East) led the Bengals with seven kills on a .462 hitting percentage.
  • Gavin Wilczewski (Elma, NY/East Aurora) contributed six kills and six total blocks.
  • Alex Nuez (Paterson, NJ/Eastside) had six kills, while Jackson Stang (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) dished out 17 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hobart won four of the first five points of the match, but Buffalo State responded to pull within one point multiple times, including at 13-12. The Statesmen then went on a 7-1 run to lead 21-14.
  • Buffalo State eventually got back within four at 24-20 thanks to a kill by Wilczewski and a trio block by Wilczewski, Strong, and Stang, before a service error gave Hobart the set.
  • Hobart opened up the second set with a 13-7 lead, and Buffalo State was unable to pull within three points the rest of the way, as the Statesmen opened up an 11-point advantage to close the set.
  • With the score knotted at 13-13 in the third set, Hobart won the next four points. The Bengals got within three at 18-15 after a Wilczewski kill, but Hobart won seven of the final nine points to close out the match.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kim's 15 kills came on a .344 hitting percentage, while Daniel Sappia chipped in 10 kills on 15 attempts.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals are in Massachusetts next weekend on Friday and Saturday, taking on Endicott, M.I.T., and Regis.
