ONEONTA, NY – The Buffalo State softball team fell to Oneonta in a SUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game 9-6, before falling 4-3 in game two.
GAME ONE BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) went 2-for-3 for the Bengals, stole two bases and scored two runs.
- Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) hit her first collegiate home run and drove in two run, and also allowed just three earned runs in 5.2 innings in the circle.
- Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) each had a hit and two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Parsons got the Bengals on the board in the first inning with a fielder's choice to drive in Grace Albano (N. Tonawanda, NY/Niagara Wheatfield). The Bengals threatened to score more runs, but had the inning end on a double play on a play at home plate.
- Oneonta scored four unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of three Buffalo State errors to go ahead 4-1.
- The Red Dragons scored a run on a wild pitch in the second inning to extend the lead to 5-1.
- Parsons singled up the middle in the third inning to drive in Congelosi with Buffalo State's second run of the game.
- After Congelosi, Albano, and Parsons walked to load the bases in the fifth inning, Quagliana delivered a two-run single to left to pull the Bengals to within one at 5-4.
- Oneonta reestablished a three-run advantage with a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth.
- In the sixth inning, Katie Pyszczek (Elma, NY/St. Mary's of Lancaster) led off with a single, and Pezdek made in 7-6 with a two-run homer to left field two batters later.
- With two outs, Congelosi singled and advanced to third after two stolen bases, but was left stranded after a groundout.
- The Red Dragons scored two more unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Buffalo State went down in order in the seventh to suffer the defeat.
FOR THE FOES
- Delaney Haley went 2-for-2 and scored two runs for the Red Dragons.
GAME TWO BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Quagliana had a double and scored two runs for the Bengals.
- Mya Hurley (Amherst, NY/Amherst) went 1-for-3 and scored the other Buffalo State run.
- Pezdek allowed three earned runs in 4.0 innings on the rubber, while Emma Hooftallen (Round Hill, VA/Woodgrove) threw two scoreless innings of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Buffalo State went down in order in the first inning, Oneonta took the lead with a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the first.
- Buffalo State responded with a pair of runs in the second after Hurley scored on a passed ball, then Quagliana also scored on the same play after an error by the catcher.
- The Red Dragons tied the score in the third on an error with two outs, then went ahead in the fourth inning with a two-out, two-run triple to make it 4-2.
- Buffalo State made it 4-3 after Quagliana doubled and advanced to third on an error, then scored on another Oneonta error.
- The Bengals had the potential tying run on base in the final three innings, but weren't able to get the clutch hit to knot the score as the Red Dragons hung on.
FOR THE FOES
- Marissa Dionisio pitched six innings, allowing three unearned runs to record the win for Oneonta.
