HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a crushing defeat by the Cardinals yesterday afternoon, the Bengals looked to come into this game with a better answer to the attacking nature of the Cardinals. In the first period, it seemed as though the Bengals learned from their mistakes as they controlled the boards play of the Cardinals, limiting their chances on the attack. As the defense kept things together, the Bengals offense also generated strong chances, keeping the Cardinals defense on their toes. As the period came to a close, both teams would be locked into a 0-0 tie, heading into the first intermission.
- The second period would see the Cardinals come out with a bit more aggression and force play back into the Bengals zone. As the Bengals managed to play mistake-free hockey, their luck would end up being crushed with the Cardinals taking advantage of a Bengals penalty, notching a goal on the power-play. With momentum on their side, the Cardinals would score another goal before the period ended, heading into the second intermission up 2-0 on the Bengals.
- In the third period, the Bengals would find themselves trailing by two goals with time ticking…but credit to the Bengals for not giving up in this game, as they kept the attack going on the Cardinals. With some aggressive play from both ends, the Bengals would capitalize on a Cardinals penalty, bringing this game within one-goal difference with the clock still ticking. As the Bengals pushed back, time wouldn't be on their side, as the final buzzer rang, and the Cardinals would take a tough win over the Bengals and sweeping the weekend series.
FOR THE FOES
- Kate Conlon and Emily Kasprzak each would score a goal for the Cardinals.
- Chloe Lewis went on to make 16 saves on 17 shots in net.
