Men's Hockey Starts 2025 With 4-1 Win Over Post

WATERBURY, CT – The Buffalo State men's hockey team snapped their three-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Post University this afternoon at the Louis Astorino Arena. With the win, head coach Steve Murphy is now just one win short matching Nick Carriere for the most wins for a head coach in program history at 109.

  • Jason Kwestel (Rockaway, NJ/Valley Wildcats) led the Bengals offense with a pair of goals.
  • Joonas Linnavuori (Helsinki, Finland/Wilkes Barre-Scranton Knights) and Ethan Perrault (Tipp City, OH/Johnstown Tomahawks) each had a pair of assists for Buffalo State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both sides remained scoreless through the first two periods of action despite an aggressive Buffalo State offense that compiled 37 shots on goal through 40 minutes of play.
  • Kiriakov got the scoring started with an early goal in the third period less than one minute into the action.
  • Powell added another Bengal goal less than a minute late to give Buffalo State a 2-0 lead.
  • Later in the period, Kwestel gave Buffalo State full control with a pair of goals to blow things open late.
  • Post was able to net a goal to avoid being shutout for a second straight contest.
  • The Bengals outshot Post 74-50 overall while the Eagles held the lead in the faceoff circle 33-30.

  • Matteo Peca scored the lone goal for Post.
  • Drew Blodgett made 47 saves in goal in the effort.
