2025-26 Women's Wrestling Season Preview

BUFFALO, NY – After a promising inaugural season, the Buffalo State women's wrestling team is ready to take the next step in 2025–26, equipped with experience and renewed confidence.

Leading the charge is new head coach Thomas Shifflet, who brings nearly 30 years of coaching experience to the Bengals program. Joining him is assistant coach Nick Rastelli II, whose background and energy have already brought a new spark to the team's culture. Competing in a tough AMCC conference, the Bengals have high hopes of making their presence felt this season.

Returning for Buffalo State is a strong core from last year's roster, led by sophomore Brooke Tarshis (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush), who paced the Bengals with 16 wins and 14 falls, earning Co-Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the AMCC Invitational.

Sophomore Rosaliz Aponte (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) also returns after posting ten wins and seven falls last season, solidifying herself as another key contributor in the Bengal lineup.

Shifflet and company open their 2025 campaign this Sunday, November 2, at the John Carroll Round Robin in Ohio. The Bengals will stay on the road through the early part of their season before returning home to the Sports Arena on January 4 for the Buffalo State Tri-Match with Ithaca College and Utica University.

Buffalo State will aim to make its mark at the AMCC Championships on February 7, followed by the NCAA Championships beginning February 20.
