HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Riding a four-match winning streak, the Buffalo State Bengals looked to make it five in a row as they hosted the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons at home.
  • In the opening set, the Bengals started off slow as the Red Dragons came out strong offensively. A timely three-point rally helped the Bengals regain momentum, and from there, the Bengals found their rhythm, stringing together multiple three-point bursts before closing the frame with four unanswered points to secure the first set victory.
  • The second set turned into a battle of runs, with both teams trading points early. As the intensity picked up, the Bengals found the edge late, reeling off five straight points to pull away and take the set, positioning themselves for the sweep.
  • In the third and final set, the Red Dragons jumped out to an early lead with a five-point run, putting the Bengals on their heels. Refusing to back down, the Bengals responded with a three-point rally to stay within reach, then built off that surge with consecutive three-point stretches to bring the score within one. From there, the Bengals finished strong, capping the comeback with a decisive five-point run to seal the sweep and extend their winning streak to five straight.
FOR THE FOES
  • Lily Pugliese led the Red Dragons with nine kills, while Layla Pertchik would excel in the playmaker role, picking up a game-high, 26 assists.
