Sekhobo And Rivera Each Score As Men's Soccer Takes Down Fredonia

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over the Fredonia Blue Devils tonight on Coyer Field in a "Battle by the Lake" showdown.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham) picked up a goal and an assist to lead the Buffalo State offense.
  • Lesedi Sekhobo (Albany, NY/Shaker) also scored for Buffalo State.
  • Carson Smith (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) made a trio of saves in the win for the Bengals.
  • With the win, head coach Francesco Cardillo earned his 81st career win which moves him passed Rudy Pompert on the all-time wins list. Cardillo currently sits second to Buffalo State Hall of Fame member Fred Hartrick who has 150 career wins.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a stalemate for much of the first half, Sekhobo got the scoring started for the Bengals netting his third goal of the season off a pass from Rivera.
  • Neither side could gain any offensive momentum as the score was 1-0 heading into halftime.
  • The Blue Devils came out of the break and found the back of the net less than two minutes into the action to even the score at 1-1.
  • Rivera gave the Bengals the lead and eventually the win on a penalty kick opportunity.
  • Despite a competitive second half on both sides, the Bengals were able to hold strong and secure the win. Buffalo State outshot Fredonia 13-6 overall with eight shots on goal.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Liam Booth scored for Fredonia.
  • Thomas McDonald made six saves in goal in the effort.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals are back in action on Saturday as they will travel to #13 Cortland for a rematch of last year's SUNYAC Championship.
