THE MATCHUP… Buffalo State looks to finish their home schedule on a high note as they will host the St. Lawrence Saints for Senior Day. The Saints are 8-2 all-time against the Bengals following a 26-18 victory last season.
THE BENGALS' LAST GAME… Last time out, the Bengals fell to Ithaca in a Liberty League matchup with a final score of 49-7.
Amir Cameron (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) had 244 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Mikai Johnson (Far Rockaway, NY/James Madison) had 90 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side,
Sincere Green (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) led the way with 11 total tackles while
Xzaivion Betts (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) had a pair of interceptions.
The Bombers jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the opening quarter after rushing touchdown and a pick-six from Cam Paquette. After Ithaca added two more touchdowns, the Bengals got on the board as Cameron found Johnson for a 41-yard score. Ithaca added another touchdown to carry a 35-7 lead into halftime. The Bombers added a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter before their defense finished the job for the win.
Michael Reed was 12-17 for 119 yards and a touchdown. Chris Sully and Michael Reed each rushed for over 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
LAST TIME WE MET... The two sides last met a year ago as St. Lawrence came away with a narrow conference victory.
Amir Cameron led the Bengals in rushing yards, finishing the day with 149 yards on 18 carries. He also tailed 26 yards passing on three completions.
Cody Phillips and
Ale Wilson each scored a touchdown for the Bengals.
Quadir McEachin led the Bengals in tackles with 10 total, while
Shamond Phillips led in total tackles for loss with three.
Basiaka Butcher made his side of the field a 'No Fly Zone' picking up two interceptions on the day.
Going into the game, the Bengals looked to add on another 'W' in the win column and pick up their second win in the Liberty League. Things looked bright, as the Bengals went the length of the field, putting up a touchdown on their first drive. The Saints would answer with a touchdown of their own on the ensuing drive, bringing this game to a 7-7 tie as the first quarter ended. Things would get wild in the second quarter, as the Saints took advantage of a special team mistake by the Bengals, moving the score to 14-7. After this, the scoring would continue with the Saints making the Bengals pay for their mistakes, getting a field goal and a safety, seemingly pulling away with this game with a 19-7 lead. But credit to the Bengals offense, who would lead a drive as the second quarter came to a finish, getting a touchdown and a two-point conversion, heading into halftime down 19-15.
In the third quarter, both team's defenses made some necessary adjustments, forcing punts on each team's first possession. The Saints would answer from a stagnant first drive, going up 26-15 midway through the third quarter. The Bengals would respond with a field goal from
Nick Sciandra going into the fourth quarter only down 26-18. The fourth quarter would see the Saints sit on the ball, only giving the Bengals two possessions for the entire fourth quarter. A late push by the Bengals offense would be too little, too late with an interception by Saints sealing the win, dropping the Bengals final record to 3-7.
Will Leaderman led the Saints with 86 yards rushing on 25 carries. Daniel Lawther, William Turner and Leaderman all threw a touchdown today, with Oskar Baldwin, Cole Salyards and Shea Goodwin on the receiving end for those touchdowns. Defensively, Ethan Metro led the Saints with 12 tackles, including five tackles for loss and three sacks. Jospeh O'Neil was credited on the lone interception for the Saints, while Metro, Liam Perkins, Dexter Seeley and Clayton Fogler were all credited for a force fumble.
