BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's lacrosse team defeated the Alfred State College Pioneers, 24-1, in their season opener at Coyer Field.

- Emilee Josker (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) led the Bengals with five goals in tonight's contest. Lauren Rinow (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) , Vanessa Willick (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) and Sage Running Rabbit (Siksika, AB, Canada/Outreach) each finished with four-goals in tonight's game for the Bengals. Willick led the Bengals in points, tallying up five assists for a nine-point night.
- Hazel Vitko-Woods (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) also chipped in with two goals, while Anna Cinquino (Conesus, NY/Livonia), Kira Grzechowiak (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West), Bri Struck (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) and Elona Jackson (West Babylon, NY/North Babylon) each scored for the Bengals.
- On the defensive end, Willick and Grzechowiak did the dirty work, collecting five ground balls each.
- Brielle Lum (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) made the lone save in net for the Bengals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bengals wasted no time making a statement in their season opener. The Bengals stormed out to a five-goal lead before the Pioneers got on the board midway through the first quarter. The Bengals responded with three unanswered goals, taking a commanding lead into the second quarter.
- From there, the Bengals took complete control, outscoring the Pioneers 8-0 in the second frame to enter halftime with a dominant 16-1 advantage.
- The Bengals continued to dominate both offensively and defensively in the second half, tacking on seven more goals while shutting out the Pioneers the rest of the way to seal the victory.
- The win also marked the first collegiate coaching victory for new assistant coach Bean Minerd — congratulations!
FOR THE FOES
- Madison Le was credited with the lone goal for the Pioneers.
- Cadence Pierce was credited with eight saves in net.
