GENEVA, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins over Hamilton and Alfred University this afternoon to close out the William Smith Tournament at Bristol Gym.
GAME ONE BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville Griffith) was stellar for the Bengals setting a career-high with 24 kills and .420 attack percentage. Wittman also chipped in eight digs in the win.
- Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) and April Jakubowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) combined for 31 assists.
- Shaffer also led the Bengals with 21 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a back-and-forth affair to open the match as the Bengals eventually held an 18-11 lead.
- Hamilton bounced-back scoring 11 of the next 15 points to even the score at 22-all. The Bengals held on to win the opening set after a kill from Wittman.
- It was the same back-and-forth effort in the second set before the Bengals clinched the set following back-to-back kills from Wittman and Shaffer.
- Hamilton went on to win the third set following an attack error from Buffalo State.
- Despite a late surge from the Continentals in the fourth set, the Bengals held on for the win after another kill from Wittman.
FOR THE FOES
- Allie Steel led Hamilton with 12 kills with Grace Jansen dishing out 26 assists.
- Ayzlinn Trefren led the Continentals with 18 digs.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Wittman paced the Bengals again with 15 kills.
- Shaffer added another 15 assists while Hailey Kulniszewski (Elma, NY/Iroquois) led Buffalo State with eight digs.
- In addition to a pair of Buffalo State wins, Wittman was named to the All-Tournament Team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alfred opened the action early with a quick 7-1 start.
- Buffalo State eventually rallied back with a 10-3 run to take the lead. The Bengals later scored 12 of 13 points to win the opening set.
- The Bengals dominated the second set, scoring 15 of the final 16 points.
- Alfred attempted a late comeback in the third set, however, the Bengals scored five of the final seven points to earn their first three-set sweep of the season.
FOR THE FOES
- Taylor Malone led the Saxons with nine kills and chipped in a trio of digs.
- Delaney Sims dished out 17 assists in the effort.

The Bengals return to action on Tuesday as they will host Houghton for their first home game of the season.
