HOW IT HAPPENED
- After scoring the first win of the New Year and their first win in SUNYAC play this past Tuesday against the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs, the Bengals looked to carry the momentum heading into a rivalry bout with the Fredonia Blue Devils.
- In the opening quarter, the Bengals would fall behind early, as the Blue Devils stormed out to a double-digit lead behind strong defensive play. A tough shooting first quarter saw the Bengals struggle to close the gap of the Blue Devils' lead, trailing by double-digits heading into the second quarter.
- In the second quarter, the Bengals built momentum with strong defense and early shot-making to close the deficit. However, the Blue Devils would respond with a 6-0 run, keeping the Bengals at bay and putting the Bengals in a 19-point hole heading into halftime.
- After halftime, the Bengals attempted to swing momentum back in their favor, narrowing the gap in the third quarter. However, the Blue Devils responded with efficient shooting to widen their advantage again. The Bengals then prepared to push for a strong finish in the final period.
- In the fourth quarter, the Bengals outscored the Blue Devils 18-12 behind stout defense. Holding the Blue Devils to only 27% shooting from the floor, the Bengals' effort was shown until the final buzzer, falling to the Blue Devils in this season's 'Battle by the Lake' opener.
