BUFFALO, NY – Gwen Jarosz (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) of the Buffalo State women's soccer team and
Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville-Griffith) of the Buffalo State women's volleyball team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week, presented by UBMD Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Jarosz, a senior mechanical engineering major, was dominant for the Bengals on Saturday in their 5-0 SUNYAC win over Cobleskill. Jarosz scored a hat trick for the Bengals while also anchoring a Buffalo State defense that earned their second shutout of the season while allowing just two shots the entire contest. Jarosz was also named the SUNYAC Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
Wittman, a senior journalism major, shined for the Bengals as Buffalo State earned a three-set sweep over Cortland to beat the Red Dragons for the first time since 2014. Wittman tallied 15 kills averaging five points per set with a .448 hitting percentage, four digs, and an assist. Wittman was also tabbed the SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career.
Both teams return to action later this evening as they will each take on Alfred State in a pair of SUNYAC matchups.
