HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After drawing with the Oneonta Red Dragons in their last outing, the Bengals returned to action for this season's first 'Battle by the Lake' matchup against the Fredonia Blue Devils.
  • Opening the first half, the Blue Devils struck first, scoring the game's opening goal in the fourth minute. The goal put the Bengals in an early deficit, forcing them to play from behind as the Blue Devils increased the pressure with strong scoring chances. However, credit to the Bengals' defense, which held its form throughout the remainder of the half, keeping the Blue Devils off the scoreboard and trailing by just one goal at halftime.
  • Exiting the halftime break, the Bengals fell behind further after back-to-back goals by the Blue Devils in the 49th and 59th minutes, increasing their deficit to three goals. As play continued, the Bengals finally got on the board in the 60th minute before turning up the pressure on the Blue Devils in their defensive zone. A late goal in the 83rd minute trimmed the Bengals' deficit to one, setting up one final push to find the equalizer. However, the Bengals' chances were cut short as the Blue Devils held on to close out the match, handing the Bengals a loss in this season's 'Battle by the Lake' matchup.
FOR THE FOES
  • Bronwyn Madden led the Blue Devils with two goals and an assist, while Haley Drinon added a goal.
  • Alyssa Hatch picked up the win in net with four saves.
