HOW IT HAPPENED
- Advancing to their third consecutive SUNYAC Championships and hosting for the second straight season, the sixth-seeded Bengals looked to make a statement against SUNYAC newcomer and seventh-seeded Alfred State College.
- Opening the first half on the attack, the Bengals scored three unanswered goals in the 12th, 13th and 14th minutes of action. The early scoring outburst caught the Pioneers off guard and gave the Bengals all the momentum from the start. The Bengals' attack continued throughout the half, as they found the back of the net again in the 23rd minute to take a commanding four-goal lead. As the first half ended, the Bengals held the Pioneers scoreless and entered halftime with a comfortable advantage, looking to finish the postseason matchup strong.
- Coming out of the halftime break, the Bengals saw play shift into their defensive zone as the Pioneers looked to find their way back into the first-round matchup. However, the Bengals' offense kept its special performance going, finding the back of the net again in the 63rd minute to take a five-goal lead. The Pioneers answered with a goal of their own in the 63rd minute before adding a second in the 79th minute. Despite the late push, the Bengals stayed focused and kept their opponent off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, securing a three-goal victory in their final game on Coyer Field and keeping their postseason run alive.
FOR THE FOES
- Brooke Miller and Isabella Hoffman each scored for the Pioneers.
- Madeline Cox led all players with seven saves in net.
