Women’s Lacrosse Throttles Past Golden Tornadoes in Season Debut

BEAVER FALLS, PA – The Buffalo State women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the new season, taking down the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes, 22-0, on the road.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Emilee Josker (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) led all players with 11 points, scoring eight goals and adding three assists. This performance moves Josker into the top 15 for all-time career scoring leaders.
  • Bri Struck (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) finished the day with ten points, scoring two goals while adding eight assists for the Bengals. Kira Grzechowiak (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and Kaylee Cadez (Temevula, CA/Temecula Valley) each added a hat-trick for the Bengals.
  • On the defensive end, Josker led the way with six caused turnovers, while Grzechowiak picked up ten draw controls. An overall superb defensive effort, the Bengals did not give up a shot all game, securing shutouts for both Brielle Lum (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Moira Penot (Clifton Heights, PA/Upper Darby), who split time between the net.
  • As a team, the Bengals outshot the Golden Tornadoes 32-0 and won the draw controls battle 21-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Making their season debut, the Bengals took to the road to start the year on the winning path as they battled the Geneva College Tornadoes.
  • The Bengals would take control of this matchup early, netting three goals within the opening five minutes of play. As the quarter progressed, the Bengals would surpass the Golden Tornadoes on their defensive end, forcing turnovers that would continue the Bengals' offensive attack, scoring four goals in a minute. A late goal would give the Bengals an eight-goal advantage heading into the second quarter.
  • In the second quarter, the Bengals would continue their offensive momentum, netting back-to-back goals to begin the quarter. This would lead to the Bengals scoring two more goals late into the quarter, walking into halftime with a 12-goal advantage over the Golden Tornadoes.
  • In the second half, the Bengals continued their strong play, limiting the Golden Tornadoes' chances in their own zone while tallying 10 more goals to round out this dominating opening-game performance, defeating the Golden Tornadoes on the road. This win secured Coach Minerd her first collegiate win as head coach, as well as her staff's first collegiate coaching win. Congratulations, ladies!

  • Lexi Lee made eight saves in the net to lead the Golden Tornadoes.
