HOW IT HAPPENED
- Returning to the Sports Arena after a two-game road trip, the Bengals hosted the Houghton University Highlanders for AMCC action and the Bengals 'Senior Night.'
- In the first set, the Bengals controlled play, rallying three-straight points on the Highlanders and taking a commanding double-digit lead. This strong opening from the Bengals carried throughout the set, which included a late five-point run, pushing the Bengals past the Highlanders and giving them the first set win.
- In the second set, the Bengals kept up their momentum, jumping out early on the Highlanders with a five-point run. Following consecutive three-point bursts by the Bengals, the Highlanders answered with a rally of their own, doing their best to keep pace. However, the deficit was too much to overcome, and the Bengals fended off a late Highlanders' push to claim the second set victory, setting their sights on a three-set sweep.
- In the third set, the Bengals again jumped out on the Highlanders early. Some Bengals mistakes left the door open for the Highlanders to stay afloat. With the Bengals up by just one point, a three-point rally gave them some distance. In a race to the finish, the Bengals held off the Highlanders and took the three-set victory, extending their undefeated AMCC streak and, most importantly, securing a 'Senior Night' win!
FOR THE FOES
- Devin Cline and Michael McGlynn each finished with three kills for the Highlanders, while Jerry Buno led the Highlanders with six assists.
- Defensively, Cline led the way with three digs.
