Izzy Pezdek And Natalia Sawyer Named Bengal Athletes Of The Week

BUFFALO, NY – Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) of the Buffalo State softball team and Natalia Sawyer (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) of the Buffalo State outdoor track & field team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week, presented by UBMD Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.

Pezdek, a junior psychology major, had a dominate week on the mound going 2-0 with 13 strikeouts, no walks, and just two hits allowed. After three shutout innings against Hilbert, Pezdek returned to action on Saturday against Fredonia where she was nearly perfect as she took a perfect game into the seventh inning. Pezdek struck out eight Blue Devils in the win to earn her second complete game shutout of the season.

The softball team is set to return to action tomorrow with a non-conference matchup at Penn State-Behrend.

Sawyer, a senior psychology major, picked up the win in her signature event in the 400-meter hurdles at the Bucknell Invite in a field of nearly 50 runners. Her time of 59.76 was the only sub-one minute mark in the event as she currently holds the top mark in the country, also as the only runner under the one minute barrier.

The outdoor track & field team returns to action on Friday as they will compete in the UB Invite.
