Softball Opens Action At 2026 SUNYAC Tournament

NEW PALTZ, NY– The Buffalo State softball team opened action in the SUNYAC Tournament today as they defeated Oswego with an 8-2 final to advance into the double elimination bracket. The Bengals dropped their first game against Cortland with a 1-0 final on Mary Gray Deane Field.
 
GAME ONE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Buffalo State – 8, Oswego State – 2

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Ashley Jedrich (Victor, NY/Victor) posted a three-hit performance while Erin Paolilli (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and Ella Stewart (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) each drove in a pair of runs.
  • Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) went the distance on the mound to earn the win allowing just four hits with a pair of strikeouts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Buffalo State offense came out swinging with a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning after a two-run double from Paolilli.
  • The Bengals added four more runs in the second inning after a two-run single from Stewart, an RBI double from Pezdek, and a sac fly from Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South).
  • Oswego was held silent until the fourth inning. After pushing across their first run of the game, the Bengals added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
  • The Lakers attempted to rally late, but the Buffalo State defense shined to close the door on their first win of the tournament.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Delaney Wiley had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the Lakers.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Quagliana had the lone hit for the Bengals.
  • Pezdek pitched six innings allowing just one run on four hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After each side faced the minimum through the first inning and a half, Cortland broke through with the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning.
  • Both teams were locked in a pitchers' duel as neither offense got a runner past second base the rest of the game.
  • The Red Dragons retired the Bengals in order in the seventh to secure the win.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Gianna Endieveri earned the win on the mound going five innings allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals will look to keep their playoff run alive as they will face Oneonta at 12:00 pm tomorrow. Should Buffalo State win, they will then conclude the day with a battle against the loser of New Paltz vs. Cortland.
