The Benjis:
The Intercollegiate Athletic Department honors outstanding Buffalo State Athletes each spring at the annual sports awards show - The Benjis are presented for the following awards:
Male Athlete of the Year – Awarded to the top male athlete who has demonstrated exceptional athletic ability and sportsmanship during the current athletic year.
Female Athlete of the Year – Awarded to the top female athlete who has demonstrated exceptional athletic ability and sportsmanship during the current athletic year.
Male Rookie of the Year – Awarded to the top male athlete in his first season of collegiate eligibility.
Female Rookie of the Year – Awarded to the top female athlete in her first season of collegiate eligibility.
Hube Coyer Award – Awarded to an outstanding male senior athlete for career accomplishments 
Ruth Houston Award – Awarded to an outstanding female athlete for career accomplishments
Scholar Athlete Award  - Given to one male and one female senior varsity athlete with the highest overall GPA and has competed their playing eligibility.    
Team of the Year  - The team voted to have had the most successful season.



Buffalo State Scholar-Athlete Luncheon:
In addition to conference and national academic honors, our student-athletes are eligible to be honored as Buffalo State Scholar Athletes.  Each spring semester, the athletics department holds its annual Scholar Athlete luncheon to recognize student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom and to give the student-athletes a chance to invite a faculty member that has impacted his/her academic career  to join in the celebration.

To qualify for invitation to the academic luncheon, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and have attended Buffalo State for at least three semesters.
