Jerry Boyes

Jerry Boyes has served as the director of athletics since 1999. 
     
He also served as Buffalo State's head football coach for 25 seasons over two stints from from 1986 to 2000 and again from 2009 to 2018, posting an overall record of 138-116 and led the team to seven NCAA playoff appearances and four ECAC Bowl Championships. 

As the director of athletics, Boyes has been the driving force behind several significant upgrades within the department of athletics, including the elevation of all head coaches to full-time status.  He oversaw the addition of the women's ice hockey program.  Boyes also led major facility upgrades, including the construction of the softball field, installation of turf on Coyer Field, the construction of the Coyer Field press box, the major renovation of Houston Gym, the installation of new bleachers in the Sports Arena and the renovation of team locker rooms.
   
Boyes was a stellar football player in his own right during his collegiate days at Ithaca. A two-time All-American quarterback, his success earned him a free agent tryout with the Cleveland Browns. He also played basketball and baseball for the Bombers before graduating in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He earned his master’s degree in physical education from Ithaca in 1981.
     
Before coming to Buffalo State, Boyes was the offensive coordinator at Ithaca. The Bombers were 72-18 during his tenure with three appearances in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, winning the NCAA Division III Championship in 1979.  He was also the head track coach for two years with two Independent College Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships and a dual meet record of 14-0.  

Jerry and his wife Sue have three children, Kaitlyn, Kristopher and Zachary.
