Lawrence enters his third season as the lead assistant coach for the Buffalo State men's basketball team in 2026-27.
Prior to joining the Buffalo State coaching staff, Lawrence spent two seasons on the coaching staff at his alma mater, La Roche University, under Head Coach Hermie Carmichael. Lawrence joined the Redhawks’ coaching staff following his graduation and remained on the bench for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. When Lawrence joined Carmichael’s staff, the Redhawks sustained their high-level winning culture, compiling a 36-20 overall record across his two seasons on the bench, including a 24-6 mark in AMCC play. Lawrence helped guide La Roche to an AMCC runner-up finish in 2021-22 before capturing the AMCC Championship in 2022-23.
During Lawrence’s first season as a coach, La Roche finished 16-12 overall and 11-5 in AMCC play, navigating a transition period with a heavily reconstructed roster while remaining one of the conference’s top programs. In 2022-23, the Redhawks returned to dominant form, finishing 20-8 overall and 13-1 in conference play. La Roche was particularly dominant at home, posting a 12-1 home record during the championship season.
Lawrence spent four seasons as a player at La Roche from 2016-2020, helping the Redhawks compile an 86-25 overall record and a 67-7 mark in AMCC play. He was part of four consecutive 20-win seasons, two AMCC Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Lawrence finished his career as the winningest player in La Roche program history, while also setting the program record for games played. Individually, he totaled 756 points, 190 assists and 191 rebounds, earning Second Team All-AMCC honors in 2020 and a spot on the AMCC All-Tournament Team.
A native of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, Lawrence is a graduate of Ambridge High School. He graduated from La Roche University in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in management.
