Karanas joined the Bengals' coaching staff in 2013, where he also served as an assistant manager of the school's fitness center. He has additional coaching experience, serving with Clarence, Empire United, and Kenmore soccer clubs. He has also acted as the director of Buffalo State’s annual summer camp. Â

A four-year player with the Bengals from 2008-11, he captained the team during his junior and senior seasons. He was a Buffalo State Scholar-Athlete, a two-time member of the All-SUNYAC All-Academic Team and Commissioner's List, and was voted team MVP as a freshman. A native of Tonawanda, N.Y., he completed his bachelor's degree in criminal justice and finished his master's degree in the same field, earning membership in the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Karanas spent three seasons as the head assistant coach from 2013-2016. Currently, Karanas is a volunteer assistant with the program, after accepting a full time position on campus.Â
