Nick Stone began his tenure as head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach and aquatics manager at Buffalo State on June 1, 2015.
In two full seasons at the helm, Stone has seen his athletes set 16 school records. In addition, he has mentored Buffalo State's first swimming All-America honors in 40 years with Connor Mergler earning three All-America accolades in 2016 and another in 2017. With his first recruiting class in the fall of 2016, Stone successfully brought 11 new swimmers and divers to campus and looks to continue to grow the programs into competitors at the top of the SUNYAC.
Stone joined the Bengals staff after spending three seasons at Williams, where he was the interim head coach. During his tenure at Williams, the Ephs boasted 26 national qualifiers. The men’s team captured the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship in all three seasons and finished as high as third at the NCAA meet. On the women’s side, Williams won consecutive NESCAC titles and also placed third nationally. Stone also served as the aquatics director at Williams and was the head coach of the Purple Valley Aquatics Swim Club.
Prior to his time at Williams, he served as the men’s assistant coach at Ithaca College where he was also an adjunct faculty member. Stone also coached two summers at the University of Tennessee Swim Camp.
Stone has a master’s degree in sport psychology from Ithaca and a bachelor’s in psychology from Hope College, where he was a four-year swimmer and NCAA qualifier in the 200 free and 800 free relay.
