Kara Stein joined the Buffalo State softball coaching staff beginning in the 2015-16 season.

Stein returned to Buffalo State after playing four years for the Bengals from 2012-2015.  Stein led the Bengals as team captain in both her junior and senior seasons at Buffalo State.  After predominately being a designated hitter in her first three seasons, Stein started in 22 games at first base in 2015, recording only two errors in the field with an impressive .973 fielding percentage.  She finished her Bengal career hitting .279 with 31 hits, 25 RBIs and 12 runs scored. 

Off the field, Stein collected many academic accolades in her four years at Buffalo State.  Graduating with her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education, Stein was a five-time Dean’s List member and was named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team in both 2013 and 2014.  Stein was also named to the SUNYAC Commissioner’s List in the spring of 2012, 2013, and 2015, while also receiving NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete Honors in 2015.

Before attending Buffalo State, Stein was a renowned Western New York softball player at Amherst High school, earning All-ECIC III First Team honors for three straight years as a Tiger.  Stein was also a respectable volleyball player, receiving her varsity letter in in the sport during her time at Amherst as well.

Stein is currently continuing her education at Buffalo State, working towards completing her Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education.

Stein is an Amherst native and still currently resides in the area.
