Marie Curran officially became the seventh head coach in the history of the Bengals' softball program in the summer of 2012, after assuming the role in an interim capacity in 2012. Curran has guided the Bengals to the SUNYAC playoffs in five of her first six seasons at the helm and has an overall record of 101-109.
In addition to her coaching duties, Curran was promoted to senior woman administrator of the athletics department in 2015 and to assistant director of athletics in 2017..
Curran originally joined the Bengals staff in 2011 as an assistant and became the interim head coach 14 games into the 2012 season after 24-year head coach Sandy Hollander passed away. Curran guided the Bengals to the SUNYAC playoffs and joined Hollander as the SUNYAC Coaches of the Year.
Prior to Buffalo State, Curran acquired 13 years of Division I coaching experience and had an accomplished four-year playing career at the Division III level.
Curran was the first Division I head softball coach at the University of Buffalo, leading the Bulls from 1999-2008. She also served as an assistant coach for two years each at Northern Illinois University and Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
As a player at Trenton State, Curran helped her teams capture NCAA Division III Championships in 1989 and 1992, and was part of two national runner-up teams in 1990 and 1993. As a senior, she was a Division III All-American and the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Curran is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy at UB. She also holds a bachelor's in exercise science from Trenton State, a master's in sports administration from Canisius and a master's of library science from UB.
A native of Chester, N.Y., she is also member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and the National Association of Collegiate Woman Athletic Administrators.
