Ray Shadowens

Ray Shadowens completed his third season as the head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country programs in 2017 and was also promoted to head track and field coach for the 2017-18 season.
 
Prior to coming to Buffalo State, Shadowens coached at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, serving as an assistant with the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams.  He also previously served as an assistant coach at Bates College in Maine and Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
 
Shadowens possesses USTFCCCA certifications as an endurance event specialist and in track and field program management.  He is also Level I certified and Level II in jumps by USA Track and Field, in addition to holding a Level I sports performance coach certification from USA Weightlifting. 
 
Shadowens, a native of Arp, Texas, competed as a student-athlete at Buffalo State for three seasons after transferring from Division I Stephen F. Austin.  A hurdler and decathlete as a Bengal, he was a SUNYAC champion in the 110-meter hurdles and was an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 55-meter hurdles.
 
Shadowens completed his bachelor’s degree in hospitality and business administration from Buffalo State in 2009 and earned his master’s in sports management from Lasell College in 2014.
