Robert Cathcart III has served as a volunteer for the Buffalo State women's hockey team since October 2020.
Cathcart III has a multitude of experience, serving in various video coordinator and operations roles since 2008. Prior to joining Buffalo State, he was a Beginner Skills Development Coach for ABC Hockey Adult Skills Clinic in Schenectady, N.Y. from 2017-2019. He also served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach with the RPI Women’s Hockey Team from 2014-2017, and worked for USA Hockey as a Video Coordinator for the 2014 U18 Girl’s and 2015 U15 Girl’s Summer Development Camps. While in the Capitol Region, he also served as a Hockey Coach for the Schenectady Youth Hockey Program from 2012-2017 from mites through bantam age groups.
Along with his role at Buffalo State, Cathcart III also works with the Canisius College men's club hockey team as head coach, a promotion he received this year after serving as an assistant coach since 2019.Â
Cathcart III, a Buffalo native, graduated from Boston College in 2008, earning a bachelor's degree in 2008. While at Boston College, he worked with the school's athletic department, helping with game day and event operations. He also held the same role at the KeyBank Center, home of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres. He earned a master's degree in Sports Administration from Canisius College in 2015.
Cathcart III is also a member of the
NHL Coaches Association BIPOC Coaches Program, is an initiative that aims to specifically support black, indigenous and coaches of color in several areas including skills development, leadership strategies, communication tactics, networking, and career advancement opportunities.
