Men's Hockey Skates to 6-6 Draw at Cortland

Joel Sheppard tallied his third hat trick of the season

CORTLAND, NY—Joel Sheppard (Pefferlaw, ON/Sutton District) netted his third hat trick of the season, but Buffalo State (8-9-3/3-5-3) squandered a 6-4 lead in the closing minutes to tie host Cortland (6-11-2/3-5-2), 6-6, in a SUNYAC contest tonight at Alumni Arena.

Travis Whitehead (Cambridge, ON/Galt Collegiate) had a goal and an assist for the Bengals, and Joe Curry (Indian River, ON/Norwood District) and Ryan Ramage (Ft. Erie, ON/Ft. Erie) also scored. Jason Hill (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) had four assists, and Nicholas Petriello (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) picked up a pair of helpers.

Buffalo State held a pair of two-goal leads, but Cortland scored two goals in 41 seconds with less than four minutes to play to knot the score. Cortland outshot the Bengals, 39-34, but Buffalo State had an 8-1 edge in overtime.

Buffalo State will visit No. 11 Oswego tomorrow at 7 p.m.
