BUFFALO, NY— Joel Sheppard (Pefferlaw, ON/Sutton District) and D'Arcy Thomas (Gatineau, PQ/Philemon Wright) each scored twice to lead Buffalo State (1-2-1/1-1) to a 6-5 win over visiting Cortland (2-1/1-1) in a SUNYAC contest tonight at the Ice Arena.

Freshman Drew Klin (Lancaster/Lancaster) netted his first career goal and added an assist, and Shareef Labreche (Markham/Markham District) also had a goal and an assist for the Bengals. Nicholas Petriello (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) added three assists.

Both teams traded goals in the opening period going into the first intermission knotted at 2-2. The Bengals led twice in the second period and held a 4-3 advantage after 40 minutes. After pushing the lead to 5-3, Cortland pulled within one before Sheppard netted the game-winner with 5:37 remaining. The Red Dragons cut the deficit to one again with 2:10 remaining, but could not pull even.

Cortland outshot Buffalo State, 35-23. Alan Fritch (Saginaw, MI/Heritage) had 30 saves for the Bengals. Buffalo State was 2 for 5 on the power play, while Cortland was 3 for 6 and had a shorthanded goal.

Buffalo State will host Fredonia next Friday for a 7 p.m. conference matchup.
