CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (6-2) bounced back with 6-2 win over Western Connecticut State (3-6) after dropping a 12-7 decision to Wellesley (5-5) in the first game today at the US National Training Center.

Wellesley belted the Bengals in the opener, plating 12 runs on 13 hits and six Buffalo State errors. The Bengals trailed 3-1 after the first inning, but erupted with a six-run second to take a lead. The Blue Pride had an answer, however, capitalizing on some timely hitting and sloppy fielding by Buffalo State to take a 10-7 lead in the fourth and pulled away for the win, despite 11 hits by Buffalo State. Freshman Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) each went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) had a double and two RBIs, and suffered her first loss of the season on the mound, working four innings, allowing 10 hits and 10 runs, but only three earned.

In the second game, Buffalo State took an early 3-0 lead. After West Conn closed the deficit to 3-2, the Bengals pulled away again on a three-run home run by Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/Mt. St. Mary) in the fifth inning. Sabuda continued to swing the hot bat, going 2 for 3 with a homerun, two RBIs and three runs scored. Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) threw a two-hitter for the win in the circle.

Buffalo State will conclude its spring trip tomorrow with games against the University of Chicago at 9:30 a.m. and against No. 1-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at 11:30 a.m.
