CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (6-4) dropped a pair of games to close out its southern trip, falling 2-0 to the University of Chicago (6-1), and then 6-4 to No. 8-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater (10-2) today at the US National Training Center.

Chicago made the most of just five hits, plating single runs in the first and fifth innings. Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke), Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) and Nicole Maher (Waterloo/Waterloo) each had singles for Buffalo State's only three hits. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) took the hard-luck loss in the circle allowing just one earned run. After surrendering three hits in the first inning, Frieling settled in and was only hit twice the rest of the way.

Buffalo State out-hit Whitewater 11-9 in the second game, but could not find enough timely hits. Buffalo State took a 3-1 lead in the third inning, but the nationally-ranked Warhawks responded with a four-run fourth to take a 5-3 advantage. Whitewater added an insurance run in the sixth before holding the Bengals off for the win. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) was 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Banach was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/Mt. St. Mary) and Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) added two hits apiece. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) suffered the complete game loss.

Buffalo State is scheduled to open its SUNYAC season at home on Saturday with a doubleheader against Morrisville State at 1 p.m.
