BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (9-5/3-1) avenged a 3-0 eight-inning loss to visiting Geneseo (7-9/3-3) in the opener with a 9-1 victory in five innings in the nightcap in a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Bengal Field.

In the first game, Geneseo capitalized on two hits and a pair of Buffalo State errors to plate three runs in the eighth inning. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) was saddled with the hard-luck loss, throwing a six-hitter with eight strikeouts, just one walk and no earned runs. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) and Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke) each singled for Buffalo State, accounting for the team's only hits of the game.

Buffalo State's bats finally came to life in the second game, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning before racing to an eight-run, five-inning victory. Nicole Maher (Waterloo/Waterloo) was 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Bengals attack. Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/Mt. St. Mary) and Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) were each 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Sabuda also earned the win, allowing four hits and no earned runs in five innings of work.

Buffalo State will next travel to Oneonta for a doubleheader this Friday.
