CORTLAND, NY—No. 9 nationally-ranked Cortland (22-2/6-0) needed extra innings, but swept visiting Buffalo State (12-8/4-4), winning 3-2 in 10 innings and 6-1 today at Dragon Field.

Cortland took a 2-0 lead in the opener, before Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) evened the score with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. The Red Dragons eventually plated the winning run in the 10th inning after bunting the tie-breaker runner over to second and scoring the run with a single. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) took the loss on the mound, allowing just four hits and just one earned run in a complete-game 9 1/3 inning performance.

Buffalo State took a 1-0 lead in the nightcap on a solo homerun by Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/Mt. St. Mary), but the Red Dragons replied with six unanswered runs to complete the sweep. Mariano had two of the Bengals' five hits, including the only extra-base hit. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) suffered the loss allowing nine hits and just one earned run.

Buffalo State will play another SUNYAC twin bill tomorrow at Oswego beginning at noon.
