Softball Wins Twice at Fredonia

Buffalo State (16-8/8-4) won a pair of SUNYAC games at Fredonia (12-11-1/4-8) today, prevailing 3-0 and 6-3. Bengals Head Coach Sandra Hollander inched closer to her 500th career win with victories No. 498 and 499.

Buffalo State made the most of just four hits in the opener, scoring all three runs in the fifth inning. Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) hit a two-run homerun, and Carly Lopez (Oriskany/Oriskany)) went 1 for 2 with a triple and a run scored. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) added a double and scattered eight hits with three strikeouts to earn the win on the mound.

The Bengals belted 11 hits including eight by Sabuda and Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/Mt. St. Mary) in the nightcap. Sabuda was 4 for 4 with a double and three runs scored, and Mariano was 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Karen Oste (Jamestown/Maple Grove) had a single and two RBIs, and Nicole Maher (Waterloo/Waterloo) was 2 for 4. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) earned the win, with Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) picking up a save, combining to allow seven hits.

Buffalo State will host the University of Rochester in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. as Hollander will go for win No. 500.
